Catch Basin Install Fixes Backyard Drainage Problem

Every time it rained, this homeowner watched water pool up right at their back door. Not a little puddle - actual standing water that had nowhere to go. Regrading the area to push water away from the house wasn't a viable option given the layout of the property, so we went a different route.

We installed a catch basin to collect the water at the source and redirect it away from the home through a solid pipe run. That meant trenching a clean line from the back of the house all the way out to a proper discharge point. It's a straightforward fix when done right, but it has to be sized and sloped correctly or you're just moving the problem somewhere else.

The pipe run stretches a solid distance across the yard, and getting it seated at the right grade is what makes the whole system work. Too flat and water backs up. Too steep and you risk erosion at the outlet. We take that part seriously on every drainage job we do.

We're heading back once the ground has had time to dry out to finish grading the disturbed areas. The goal is for the yard to look as clean as the drainage system functions when we're done - no rough edges left behind.

Water pooling near a door or foundation isn't just an annoyance. Over time it works its way into crawl spaces, causes erosion, and creates bigger headaches.
